I have no lofty requirements or expectations here, but the fact is my keyboard is 1.5 feet away from the USB dongle, and the only thing between them is 3/4" of plywood. Even then, it will frequently drop characters or miss my holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key. I know it's the reception because if I put my keyboard below the tray it works fine. Working fine at a distance of 6 inches away from the receiver, anyway.
Spend the money and get a better brand like Logitech or Microsoft. I bought this one at a discount computer place about an hour away from me, so returning it is going to be a hassle for me, which is annoying.
The mouse works fine, but it goes to sleep after about 5 minutes - to wake it up you have to press the right mouse button. Frankly it doesn't bother me that much, but if that sounds annoying to you, all the more reason to go with another brand.
