(More customer reviews)I ordered this to replace an Apple Bluetooth keyboard for my MacBook Pro. The price was a little high compared to other keyboards I have seen. The packaging looks like something from Apple, very high end. Hmmm, maybe that is why the cost for this keyboard is high. First dislike, the mouse, though it functions well, it is WAY too small. I have large hands, but this mouse is tiny. It looks more like a travel mouse to put in your laptop bag. After using it for two days, I had to go back to my previous mouse.
Next dislike, is the fact that you have to install software to use all the functions of the keyboard. I have never understood that concept and always worry that it may interfere with something else on my computer. But, it was easy to install and after 3 days, no problems.
Now for the keyboard itself. It looks good and seems to be of decent quality. The keys are flat, but have a nice spring to them and are fairly quiet, except for the space bar, which is a bit noisy versus the other keys.I like the feel overall of the keys, BUT the keys next to the space bar (Fn, Control, Option, Command, and the Space Bar) are all smaller than the keys on my Apple Keyboard and are even smaller than the keys on my MacBook Pro. Not a big deal, but it takes a bit to get familiar with this decrease in size and I find I often hit the wrong key when trying to hit one of those specific keys.
The top of the keyboard had a white rounded area that has many special keys. This area is another area I am not thrilled with as far as appearance. It is shiny white plastic and is a bit out of place compared to the gray and silver of the rest of the keyboard. On the far top left of this area, is a strange knob that you can roll to scroll through a document. I have no idea why you would use this when you have a mouse, but it is there and it works. Next to it are forward and backward buttons that work well on web pages, but again, I am not sure why one would need this. The next set of special keys are buttons which can be used to launch applications on your computer (iTunes, Mail, iChat, Safari, iCal, and Front Row). They all work great and I honestly did not think I would use them, but I am trying to and they do save me some time. It has a number keypad on the right side of the keypad and I like that, especially when Apple, for some reason, decided to abandon that feature in its new wireless keyboards.
I cannot comment about battery life, as I have only had the keyboard for 4 days but I will write later and tell you how that goes. I do like the fact that on the top right of the keyboard is a battery indicator light that is supposed to tell you when the battery is low, so that is a nice feature.
All in all, I like the feel and performance of the keyboard at this time. I do wish they would have kept the keys next to the space bar the regular size. I think once I use the keyboard more often, it will be less of a negative.
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Pros:
1) A keyboard made for Macs and not Windows
2) Good feel and spring to the keys
3) Feels solid in construction
4) Application launching keys actually work
5) Despite having to install software to make it work, it was easy to install and so far it works fine
6) Keys are fairly quiet when typing
7) Not Bluetooth ( I have way too many Bluetooth problems with my Mac) and a single USB receiver (Very small...nice) is used for both the keyboard and the mouse.
Cons:
1)A bit pricey
2) Mouse is way too small for average or large hands. It would be nice to have an option not to buy the mouse and just buy the keyboard. Or make the mouse bigger
3) Space bar a bit noisy compared to other keys
4) Small size of all keys next to space bar, makes typing a bit of a challenge.
5) Cosmetic: not a fan of the shiny white at top of keyboard.....looks cheap.I would recommend to a friend.
