(More customer reviews)I got this with my Media Center PC from HP, and I've given it especially rough treatment, and it takes a licking and keeps on ticking! I don't know how many times I've drop kicked the keyboard and splattered the mouse with gunge, and they both keep working like a champ! I would occasionally have to reboot Vista Home Premium x64 to get the keyboard to work, but that has become rare now that the last Microsoft update came through.
The keyboard and mouse are fantastically well balanced, with good key response and feed back, and the mouse is extraordinary on non standard surfaces, like my arm chair and leg! Hey, it is a remote wireless! It can go anywhere! The range is good and I have gobbs of other wireless devices, with no conflict, I even tried a backlit Microsoft bluetooth model for media centers, but it just didn't hold a candle to the ease of use with this combo.
I figure I'm better off clipping a book light onto the rail of this keyboard and using that for low light! The batteries last a LONG time, when you look at the fact that I probably use this thing for work and play, which adds up to more that 10 hours a day on average 365 days a year! The mouse has a shut off switch that really extends the battery life.
I'd say I replace the keyboard batteries about every two months with heavy use, and the mouse, probably at least three months; but maybe longer. I shut it off every-time I leave it idle. It would be cool if it had an auto shutoff on idle, like the Microsoft keyboard did.
But I gave the other board away, I'm keeping this one. Only con is the right and left side buttons are very poorly placed and I keep hitting the sleep button at the most inopportune times. There maybe a disable configuration, but I slowly got use to it after quite a few expletive deleteds!
