(More customer reviews)Installed 4 GB of DDR2-6400 ram, 5400 RPM 320gb HDD, and Windows 7 64-Bit. Updated the Nvidia Ion drivers to the latest build, and I must say, the system is quite capable. Much peppier than the single core Acer Revo 1600 that I returned due to its horrid performance on basic tasks. Dare I say, this Asus eeebox EB1012 is just beefy enough to be an everyday computer. I overclocked it to 1.8GHz, might try 2.0Ghz in the future. SPDIF works great. I have this connected to a 720P projector and the results are very pleasing. Asus also includes a VESA mount so you can mount this thing on the back of your monitor if you so choose. Just incase you're wondering, my system's windows experience index in Win7 64Bit is:
CPU: 3.3 (1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz gave the same score)
Memory: 4.4
Windows Aero: 4.3
Gaming graphics: 5.3
Hard Drive: 5.4
A few hiccups:
1. Even though I'm running a 64bit OS, the system recognizes 4GB of ram but indicates only 3GB is usable. Odd.
2. I have the latest build of VLC and also XBMC, but for some reason, these both don't play my 720P MKV files as smoothly as Media Player Classic. I was under the impression that these all have GPU acceleration? HULU in high quality plays well though. I probably need to tinker with it a bit more.
3. Flashy blue LEDs are very distracting in a darkened room. Some masking tape should fix that.
All in all, if you have spare ram and HDD lying around, this is a great way to utilize them on the cheap and still have a very capable, dedicated HTPC/Server/everyday PC.
